History of The Beef Haus

The Beef Haus has a very extensive history. The original Beef Haus, opened by Tim Torrey on May 11, 1978 was located on Main Street in Wellsville, where another local restaurant currently resides. In 1984, an electrical fire destroyed the entire storage area and kitchen. At that time, Spiro's Restaurant was located in the current Beef Haus building and was for sale. In November 1984, on a Friday night, Spiro's closed its doors and the building reopened on the following Monday as The Beef Haus. This was the only six week period that the Beef Haus was not open in its history. The Beef Haus was so successful in the new location that, in 1985, the "Willow" Room was opened as an adjacent dining room. Later came the "Balloon" Room as another additional dining and meeting room. The upstairs loft was also added to create a larger banquet and meeting facility.

In January 1991, Bob Insley and Tim Quinn purchased The Beef Haus, making additional renovations to the upstairs loft and the kitchen. Ownership changes came again in 1997, as Tim Quinn sold out of the partnership. Three additional owners (Sam Davenport, Rich English, and Deb Insley) then purchased shares creating Beef Haus, Inc.

The 176 North Main Street location has housed a number of different businesses. It is believed that the building started as Halls Drug Store, with hardware and paint sold on the second floor. It is also believed that the person who opened Halls is the same person who owned the Pink House, and that he created the special recipe for the pink paint which was used for this historic house. This special paint was mixed in the upstairs of Halls Drug Store, which is now the upstairs loft of The Beef Haus. After Halls Drug Store, the building became Williams Hardware. Later, it was turned into an Italian Restaurant, and then became Spiro's Greek Restaurant.

While the Beef Haus has changed ownership through the years, each owner or group of owners has brought something special to its history. Through fire, relocation, refurbishing, and expansion the Beef Haus continues to create a friendly atmosphere which keeps guests returning for lunch, dinner, or special events.

A New Fun Look

It's a new look to an old town tradition. Recently renovated the Dining Room and Bar, we now have an open dining area with the original tin ceiling from the previous Hall's Drug Store. The Bar has been moved and expanded with three flat screen TV's for your enjoyment. And of course a new Beef Bar that is fully visable to all. We even added some of Wellsville's past history to our decor with pictures from yester-year and local antiques that are unique to our area. Our patrons provided us with the most interesting look at our areas history!

Beef Haus Round Table

This table has also been in the Beef Haus for a long time. It was the meeting place for all the dignitaries in town for lunch. They would meet at this table every day and discuss the politics and events of the day. This table is a part of Wellsville's history.
